Christmas memories
Everyone has em. But if you asked two people from the same time they would have different recollections.
My family will attest tot he fact that I am not a surprise kinda gal. I am terrible with happy secrets. ( I can keep a serious secret but if it is a good surprise I am terrible) I have been a present peeker since I figured out there wasnt a santa. My Mom hid gifts as well as possible in a house with four kids and NO ROOM.
I found them every year in the basement covered in blankets. I never ever had surprises. Even the year of the bicycle it wasnt surprised. I was visiting my moms friends house and there in her basement was a pink sparkly bike. I was maybe ten and figured it had to be mine. I didnt mention it to anyone and there it was Christmas morning in the living room.
One year when I was on the cusp of santa vs. no santa, I asked for a baby Alive. Everyone wanted one and I saw it on TV all the time. I knew it cost alot of money so I could never get it cuz we were not big in the cash department. Christmas morning I got up and opened all the gifts and it wasnt there. Thats ok I didnt think they could afford it and it would be alright. Then my Mom said the good old one liner everyone waited for on Christmas morning, "hey I think there is one more for______, yeah here it is." This year it was my turn, She came out of her and my Dads bedroom with a box for SUZIE. I knew it. I prayed for it and there it was, I ripped it open and there she was all fleshy and had batteries all ready to go. When you stick the bottle in her mouth her mouth moved and she made a sucking noise.
BABY DOLL HEAVEN.
I knew then that there had to be a santa.
I know now after talking to my mom she had a christmas club and every month from Jan on she would stash whatever money she could so that we would get what we wanted.
No words can describe how good those days were.
The smallest house filled with the biggest love.
My brother wrote me a note the other day and said he got old movies put on dvd he is bringing them on the holiday for all of us to enjoy. I guess I will see my Dad for Christmas this year, circa 1972 but my Dad all the same.
Its a good thing.
