The Boy...

Jack Andy and I spent New Years Day at the Lehigh Gorge.  It was an unseasonably warm day, a little rainy but still perfect for a getaway.  We left the house around noon and I was honestly...cranky.  Premenstrual, post holiday, house-toy-animal overload.  Andy is unusually sensitive to the whole female hormone situation.  He mentioned the day trip, I immediately said NO .. then five minutes later I changed my mind.  Good decisionon my part.
We went for a nice lunch in Jim Thorpe, Jack enjoyed his chicken and fries and corn.  We then walked along the river.  Nana bought Jack walkie talkies for Christmas.  He and Andy played with them like two 6 yr old boys.  Jack would run ahead of us oon the path and "report" back the conditions ahead on the path.  "Train cars up ahead, puddles coming up, lady in a pink coat walking a dog!"  He was wearing his big boots since it was a rainy chilly day.  He clomped along the path like a little trooper.  He was yell back to his Daddy to say "BOOST DADDY BOOST!"  Andy would then talk into the wallkie talkie "Boost Jack BOOOST!"  Which in turn sent the boy rocketing faster forward on the path.. like a rocket, he was the astronaut.
He chatted with EVERY person that passed.  Introduced himself, shared his new cherished toy, introduced us as his parents.  One woman was walking her dog, he kindly asked if he could pet the dog.  He did-while discussing his pets at home their names, the new guinea pig, where he goes to school his two sisters.  She smiled at me while he chatted and pet the dog.  She was kind and charming.  Her comment to me was "How lucky you are to have such a charming little boy."
Part of me wants to say "You don't know what its been like sometimes."
Then I admire his smiling happy face petting the dog holding his walkie talkie in his cold damp hands huge boots.  red nose.
perfection.
The woman asked him a few questions, he didnt quite answer 100% correctly, he's close, but not quite there yet.  He was appreciative, and sweet.

I am attaching pictures of my boy, running along searching for adventure.  Observing, and telling us all about his imaginations.  I can someday look back a this New Years day 2012 and remember our boy running ahead and reporting his observations.  I will remember that image in my minds eye forever.  His smiling beautiful boy face.
